  • Among the Jews of 19th century Poland, there was a practice of melting silver coins into beaker cups, and then by means of a visitor traveling to The Holy Land, these cups would be hand engraved by Jewish artisans living in the community of Safed. This cup has three scenes of “holy sites” engraved on it, which are the Western Wall, Tomb of the Patriarchs, and the area of House of David, meaning the Holy Temple. Each site is titled in Hebrew.
